Health Information Specialist - As-Needed (PRN)
The Lutheran Home is seeking an As-Needed (PRN) Health Information Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for compiling, processing, and maintaining medical records, as well as assisting with scheduling and coordinating resident appointments within our healthcare community. This position works on an in as-needed basis, providing coverage for planned and unplanned staffing needs, with primarily weekday daytime hours based on department needs. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Maintain accurate and organized resident medical records
- Review medical records for completeness and accuracy
- Protect the privacy and confidentiality of resident health information
- Enter, scan, and update resident information in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Process resident admission and discharge paperwork
- Schedule and coordinate resident appointments
- Retrieve medical records and provide information to authorized healthcare staff as needed
- Respond to requests for medical records in accordance with organizational policies
- Answer telephone calls and direct inquiries to the appropriate department or staff member
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Strong data entry, organizational, and administrative skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn new software
- Strong customer service, telephone, and communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Previous medical records experience preferred
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds and perform frequent bending, twisting, reaching, and grasping
